Glassdoor ranks 20 Best UK Towns & Cities to Work In

The 20 Best UK Towns & Cities to Work In

Thinking of picking up and moving to a different town or city for pastures new? Recruitment site Glassdoor has done some maths to create a list of the “20 Best UK Towns & Cities to Work In” based on how easy it is to get a job, median salaries, average home value and overall employee satisfaction.

Topping the list is Cambridge, with an overall score of 4.1. There are currently 2093 job openings listed on Glassdoor in a population of 145,818. People already employed in the historic city rate their job satisfaction at 3.5 and the median base salary is £35,000. However, house prices rival those of outer London at an average of £436,932.

The North features quite heavily, with locations such as Leeds, Bradford, Liverpool and Manchester making the list. Scotland is also a great place to be in the job market – Aberdeen comes out on top at number 12, followed by Glasgow at 15 and Edinburgh at 16.

It’s refreshing to see places other than London and its outskirts in the spotlight as places to live and work. While the city offers plenty by way of higher salaries, its population means job opportunities are incredibly competitive. This is all good news for young families looking to leave the Big Smoke for more space or cheaper house prices.
