Our feature writer, Sienna Shipton, joined five fellow journalists from the corporate travel and MICE industry for a Parisian adventure to explore Saint-Denis, a gorgeous commune that neighbours Paris. They checked in for the weekend at the newly opened H4 Hotel Wyndham Paris Pleyel Resort, a striking vertical landmark that rises above the northern skyline, offering breath taking views across the capital…
The group experienced H4 Hotels ‘bleisure’ facilities (business and leisure) offerings first hand. If you want a long weekend that blends Parisian energy with a touch of calm, Saint-Denis โ with its leafy streets, historic basilica, and buzzing local markets โ offers a surprisingly relaxed counterpoint to the capitalโs centre, while the H4 Hotel Wyndham Paris Pleyel Resort provides a modern base from which to explore it all.
So, whatโs Paris like as a leisure, meeting, and events destination?
H4 Hotel Wyndham makes an ideal base for exploring the city. Its enviable location, just outside the centre in Saint-Denis offers the best of both worlds. With easy access to Parisโs iconic landmarks, while also revealing a more authentic, local side of the capital that you would not typically know to visit. Leafy streets, bustling markets and charming cafรฉs hint at the areaโs rich heritage, making each avenue a small discovery.
The hotel itself adds a touch of understated glamour to the trip with its striking architecture and range of facilities. Towering above the skyline, it is home to Franceโs highest swimming pool and a Sky Bar, where panoramic views stretch from Montmartre to the Eiffel Tower, making this the perfect spot for a cocktail after a long day of meetings or leisurely sightseeing.
London to Paris by Eurostar
One of PA Life’s recommended suppliers, Eurostar, swept us from London St Pancras to Paris Gare Du Nord. Just a short two hour journey , we then then hopped in a taxi that took me to Saint Denis in about 20 minutes to our charming enclave just beyond the cityโs bustle.
We checked into an Executive Suite on the 36th floor and were immediately struck by the sweeping views across the city, taking in the Eiffel tower that sparkled at 8pm. The suite was a generous size sitting room and bedroom, with a beautiful white marble walk through bathroom. Perfect for a much longer stay as oppose to just two nights.
Just the floor above is the Sky Bar and skyline swimming pool, where you can enjoy drinks and snacks in a glamorous setting, far removed from the MICE environment. On the ground floor is where you can find the main hotel restaurant, with a sophisticated but approachable flair,ย you are served both breakfast and dinner from a true Parisian cuisine.
The plentiful and impressive events & meetings spaces
The General Manager, Stig Castoe gave us a tour of the building on arrival, highlighting the purpose build for versatility features. H4 Hotel Wyndham Paris Pleyel Resort has one of the largest private convention centres in the region, which is available for exclusive use – a true city rarity. Spanning 10,000 sqm, it includes 16 flexible meeting rooms, a 1,180 sqm plenary hall with an 8-meter ceiling, and space for up to 2,600 guests.
From international summits to gala dinners and exhibitions, the centreโs modular layouts, integrated technology, and natural light create a seamless setting for all types of events. As the largest hotel to open in Paris in over 50 years, H4 Hotel Wyndham Paris Pleyel Resort marks a new chapter in the city’s hospitality landscape. With an unrivalled combination of exceptional business amenities, engaging leisure experiences and an exciting and strategic location, the hotel has it all for both professional and personal travel.
Time to explore Saint-Denis
If you love grand Gothic architecture, then Saint-Denis is a must visit destination. Step out of the Basilique de Saint-Denis metro station and the first thing youโll see is the cathedral-like basilica, its stone faรงade rising above a market square – the birthplace of Gothic architecture and the burial site of French kings. We had an incredible tour guide, Agathe DeTrogoff, Marketing Communication Manager who walked us through the rich history of the church on our second day.
Beautiful palaces and cultural landmarks are scattered throughout the city centre and can easily be explored on a walking tour. We were grateful to our guide from the Paris Tourism Board for her incredibly knowledgeable and insightful tour. We learned so much about this Gothic city, a place that feels both part of the capital yet distinctly apart from it.
When in Saint-Denis, the vintage flea markets are not to be missed, stepping into them feels like an entirely different world. Wandering the cobbled streets and winding alleys lined with stalls, itโs easy to imagine the neighbourhood as a living museum of French material culture. One highlight was the vintage designer market, where high-end womenโs jewellery, shoes, dresses, and perfume were displayed like treasures waiting to be discovered.
Team building activities at The Baking School
On the final day of our trip, we visited The Maison Fleuret โ The Baking School, tucked away in central Paris just a few metro stops from our hotel. We rolled up our sleeves to make homemade pastries, embracing the true Parisian spirit. It was a hands-on experience that brought our group together in laughter and a lot of flour over our face! Our host made the session both entertaining and engaging. This is definitely an experience Iโd recommend to anyone looking to taste (and create) a little piece of Paris for themselves.
Priced at around ยฃ128 per head, the workshop offers excellent value for a premium culinary experience in the heart of Paris. Youโll leave with new pastry making skills, and of course, a box of your own freshly baked creations to enjoy.
Staying in for a drink and dinner at H4 Hotel Wyndham
Back at the hotel after a good 20,000+ steps later, it was definitely time for cocktails at the hotelโs popular Sky Bar, also known as ‘The Stage’. We also met with Stig Castoe, the hotels General Manager again for a catch up, where he showed us how the hotel has mastered the art of eloquent and super tasty cocktails, with unique combinations. For dinner, we ate at the hotels restaurant, Le Pleyel, where guests are invited to enjoy traditional French cuisine, celebrating the countryโs rich culinary heritage.
Every facility at the H4 Hotel Wyndham is exceptional quality, while the food, made from the freshest local produce, showcases flavours you can taste in every bite, as well as feel these benefits from the inside out – leaving the hotel feeling nourished despite the busy schedule MICE visits often have.
