The legendary Putney pub The Half Moon reopens after a revamp

The legendary Putney pub and live music venue, The Half Moon, has undergone a full refurbishment and is once again open for music lovers. It’s been a hub for live music that’s brought icons, including The Rolling Stones, Kate Bush and Ed Sheeran to South West London since 1963…

The historic venue now blends its rich musical heritage with a refreshed design, a brand-new first-floor dining space and a menu inspired by Deep South Americana.

Step inside and the interiors hit the right note. The ground floor bar strikes a perfect chord between rustic charm and a love of music with exposed brickwork, stripped-back timber and worn leather chairs creating a welcoming, lived-in vibe, while framed instruments, iconic albums and neon signage celebrate the pub’s storied past.

The legendary Putney pub The Half Moon and its iconic Music Room

Beyond the main bar lies the legendary Music Room. This iconic space features black-and-white diamond flooring and music-themed detailing where artwork pays homage to live performers. A cinema-style overbar adds a touch of retro flair while the stage, framed by a fresh red velvet curtain, ensures every act remains firmly in the spotlight. Staying true to its roots, the pub continues to host nine shows a week – remaining the definitive place to see rising stars shaping the future of music like Lola Young and The Molotovs. Outside, the revitalised beer garden features smart new furniture and vibrant murals, ready for soaking up the sun.

Upstairs, the bar and terrace take centre stage. In a major transformation for the venue, the first floor, has been reimagined as a premium social and dining destination which can also be hired for private parties and events. Reached by a new staircase, this level features a bar adorned with reclaimed artwork and handwritten antique mirrors, eclectic decorative lighting and reclaimed timber panelling. Flowing seamlessly from the bar is the new rooftop terrace, a versatile indoor-outdoor sanctuary boasting decorative tiled floors, a mix of cosy seating and a retractable roof – perfect for catching rays or sheltering from London’s unpredictable weather.

Great new menu of bold food & drink choices awaits

The menu is designed for sharing with bold snacks and plates packing a punch in flavour. Small bites include popcorn chicken with hot maple and chipotle mayo; scorched cauliflower croquettes with salsa; or Half Moon wings with buffalo sauce and blue cheese, whilst sharing plates include the BBQ Platter; Surf & Turf; and the Chicken Board. Burgers, pub classics and plant-based twists ensure nobody leaves hungry, while Sunday roasts are piled high with seasonal veg, beef fat roasties, Yorkshire puddings and plenty of gravy.

From craft beers to cocktails and the classics, there’s a sip for every mood with brews including DEYA’s Steady Rolling Man IPA – named after legendary blues artist Robert Johnson – alongside favourites from South London-based independent brewery, Gipsy Hill, and popular fruit lager from Jubel.

The Half Moon’s events calendar is just as lively as its interiors. Monday night New Moon sessions showcase emerging artists and global up-and-coming acts following in the footsteps of alumni like Cat Burns, Jalen Ngonda, and Sophie & The Giants. All-day music marathons, gigs and matchday festivities for local football fans, means there’s always a reason to pop in. For those seeking a laugh, monthly comedy nights remain a circuit favourite having hosted the likes of Rob Beckett, James Acaster and Sara Pascoe. Garden parties and weekly quizzes keep the vibe social, while the bar will launch a new summer Spritz menu in partnership with Fever-Tree, perfect for long balmy evenings in the beer garden. What’s more, exciting headlining and famous artists will host gigs all year, so be sure to check the website for tickets.

Open all week, The Half Moon is ready to welcome old fans, new faces and anyone who likes their music loud and their pints cold. Walk-ins are encouraged; so pop in, grab a drink and let the good times roll.
