Hannah shares: “While we’re all busy trying to sort out our finances for holidays, get togethers or big tickets items, it can be easy to look past how much we spend in our day to day at work.”
“By making smarter choices, and utilising benefits that you have access to, you can make savings every day and ease any stresses knowing you’re positively contributing to your financial wellbeing.”
Tips on how to save money at work
Take that daily coffee down to one a week! That daily coffee on the way to the office to fuel your commute can be an enjoyable pick me up, but this can also quickly rack up. Try to utilise coffee machines or supplies in the office. Or try to have your cup before you leave the house; bringing a coffee in a takeaway cup is just as enjoyable, and much more cost effective. Most coffee shops now also offer discounts if you’re bringing in your own reusable coffee cup, if you are after a specialty coffee. As we know, treats are important, but like all good things in life, so is balance.
Bring food in
Buying food out can be quite pricey, especially in the city. Meal deals do not always cut it either. A ยฃ3.40 meal deal every day, can actually set you back ยฃ1,150 a year! This, plus the expense of takeaway coffees, as you can image, certainly racks up. Understandably, cooking after a long day can be extremely tiring, so focus on meal prepping over the weekend or making 20-minute meals for yourself, to split for your lunch and dinner.
Health-related benefits
Make the most of subsidised premium healthcare options, and even extend this to your family, while health care cash plans are available as employer funded or employee funded programmes โ which allow staff to claim back the cost of a visit to the dentist, optician or physiotherapist. Discounted gym memberships are also another perk that may be on offer if you want to boost your fitness.
Travel Smart
Commuting can be quite expensive, especially if you are travelling in and out of the city. If you’re in London, consider getting a travel card if you find you’re spending more on a daily or weekly cap. Options like a season ticket loan, a travel card, ‘cycle to work’ scheme and UK Government EV scheme are also ways of lowering travel costs, making the journey more affordable.
Utilise workplace discounts
Your workplace may offer discounts through a benefits platform, whether this is in the form of a voucher, code or affiliate link. You may even be able to access these from an app, to ensure you’re not missing out on any good deals. From daily essentials to more costly things like travel, make sure you’re utilising what’s on offer to make savings – even the smallest amount can accumulate in the long run.
Ultimately, financial wellbeing doesnโt have to come at the cost of daily comfort. With a more conscious approach to spending, we can help tackle financial health.
