PA Life Club members were treated to a fantastic evening at the new East London design hotel nhow (pronounced ‘now’) on January 24th. As soon as we stepped through the door into the large open space we were stunned by striking colours, extraordinary furniture and inviting contemporary art. The 3m high Big Ben rocket, taking off near the entrance is worth seeing, even if you pop in for just that. It was evident that this was no ordinary hotel. The fun, and a little quirky at times, objects and art are all part of the London theme of the hotel.
21 members of the PA Club arrived at 6 pm for a drinks and nibbles reception in an area just by the reception. The whole ground floor is open plan, with clever dividers, and includes a bar, dining area and a co-working space too. There are very inviting seating areas with sofas around the large lounge area where you can relax over a coffee or a cocktail.
Welcome drinks and canapes ahead of a tour of the hotel
We were greeted by the nhow London Director of Sales, Yvonne Wissart, and members of the event team as well as the hotel’s General Manager, Sheila Azimian.ย Yvonne gave us an informative talk about the hotel and its event spaces and corporate offerings. It was then time to explore the meeting and event rooms and to take a peek at the bedrooms too.
The fantastic interiors of the rooms keep to the London theme, with room doors looking like your typical London townhouse door. The room interiors have very modern art vibes with a large Panksy-style painting of the late Queen on the concrete wall, plus ‘It’s a London Thing’ written on another wall. You can even admire a wall with traditional Anaglypta embossed wallpaper, it’s been a while since I’ve seen this. The bathrooms are a salute to the monarchy with royal green tiles and towels with a large crown motif. We visited a Premier Room, a very comfortable space for shorter stays. But if you are planning on staying for a while, opt for the fantastic eight-floor penthouse suite with a green shagpile carpet and plenty of colourful design details.
Three course dinner at the nhow London restaurant
A three-course sit-down dinner was waiting for us at the dining area after our tour of the hotel. The modern British menu offered plenty of choice from contemporary to the traditional dishes. I started with seared scollops, followed by roast Turbot, caramelised sprouting broccoli and grapefruit hollandaise – both were cooked perfectly and super delicious. My pudding o dark chocolate mousse, rasberries, Amaretto and vanilla chantilly was the popular choice of the night, no wonder as it tasted divine.
