1 Wimpole Street: a green venue for your next event

Based within the home of the Royal Society of Medicine, 1 Wimpole Street offers the perfect blend of traditional and modern surroundings, located close to Oxford Circus, Bond Street, Harley Street and Marylebone Lane. Our speciality is hosting conferences, meetings, receptions, and private dinners but our versatile spaces can accommodate most requests.

Here at 1 Wimpole Street, we do our best to host unforgettable events, while still being environmentally conscious so we’d like to share some things we do as a green accredited events venue:

  1. Embrace Energy Efficiency:

One of the most impactful steps towards sustainability is optimising energy consumption within your venue. Implementing energy-efficient lighting systems such as LED lamps will save a lot more electricity than you think! At 1 Wimpole Street, we turn off unnecessary light and climate control our rooms through a computerised Building Management System (BMS). Additionally, making use of windows and natural light reduces our need for artificial lighting during daytime events.

  1. Implement Waste Management Strategies:

Taking a proactive approach towards waste management means setting up easily accessible recycling stations throughout the venue and promoting biodegradable or reusable materials to be used instead of single-use plastics. Here at 1 Wimpole Street, we work with Veolia UK to make sure our food waste is disposed of in a clean and conscious way. We also minimise packaging on deliveries where possible by using returnable crates. Implementing waste management strategies is important to protect the environment, conserve resources, safeguard public health, and even drive economic growth. By properly managing waste through recycling, reusing, and responsible disposal, we can reduce pollution, promote sustainability, and create a more resilient and circular economy.

  1. Saving water:

Introducing sustainable water systems will preserve natural resources, conserve energy and save money. At 1 Wimpole Street, we have an on-site water purification system which has saved annually an estimated 92,000 1 litre glass bottles from being transported, saving an estimated 7,200 tonnes of carbon emissions.

  1. Limit paper consumption:

The production of paper requires significant amounts of energy, resulting in greenhouse gas emissions that contribute to climate change. This is why we use Forest Stewardship Council (FSC) certified paper in our meeting rooms, which ensures that the paper comes from responsibly managed forests. However, more often than not, we try to use electronic documentation and files where possible to limit paper consumption as much as we can.

As we continue to strive for success in the conferences and meetings industry, it is imperative that we prioritise sustainability. By making conscious efforts to adopt eco-friendly practices, reduce waste, and minimise our carbon footprint, we can contribute to a healthier planet and create a more sustainable future for generations to come. Let us join hands in embracing sustainability as a core value in our industry, working together to make a positive impact on the environment and inspire others to follow suit. Together, we can make a difference and create a more sustainable and environmentally friendly events industry.

Allow us to host your next event!
