Restaurant review: business over lunch at Lanes of London classic Mayfair restaurant

Lanes-of-London-Mayfair-restaurant-exterior

PA Life visited Lanes of London, a classic Mayfair restaurant on Park Lane, for a working lunch. Weโ€™ve purposefully booked Friday to have ample time to catch up and enjoy what this renowned restaurant had to offerโ€ฆ

The appeal as a great place to book executives for a lunch or dinner was evident as soon as we arrived. The discreet setting, yet casual ambiance, would be appreciated by your boss and colleagues, especially when business needs to be discussed or client relationships need attention. Theย  interior, and impressive exterior too, is classic in style, and attentive service was at the core of our experience. Our server Vivien was very helpful in explaining the menu choices and recommending the best dishes to us which we appreciated, particularly with the vegetarian dishes.

Lanes of London is an all-day dining destination for a discerning clientele, part of the London Marriott Hotel Park Lane. The cuisine is modern British, with European influences and always five-star-service that they are proud to preserve.

What was our lunch at Lanes of London like?

We decided to order from the three-course tasting menu, which at ยฃ50 is an excellent offer. The menu is available for lunch and dinner and had three choices for starters and mains, and two dessert options. I ordered burrata with pickled radicchio, basil sponge, ciabatta crisp, macerated fig โ€“ very seasonal โ€“ and finished beautifully with balsamic pearls. Burrata is a trusted favourite of mine and this was incredibly soft and the whole dish well balanced. My friend ordered the confit duck rillettes served with panko fried egg, macerated fig, blood orange, braised gem lettuce, crumbled feta and herb aioli. Another delicious classic that was prepared perfectly.

Our main courses of pan seared salmon served with horseradish cream, orange and heritage cauliflower, and chickpea panisse with seasonal vegetables and romesco sauce were beautifully presented and very tasty. The delicate flavours of both dishes worked well together, and I especially enjoyed the salmon with the mild horseradish that wasnโ€™t too overpowering.

Vivian’s wine recommendation of a Stellenbosch classic Kleine Zalze Vineyard’s Chenin Blanc was an excellent choice to compliment our blend of vegetarian, fish and duck dishes.
