PA Life took a trip into the heart of Soho to experience Sucre Restaurant, where fire cooking meets contemporary finesse. Offering a true taste of Latin American, this was an entirely new experience for the PA Life team. With the finest ingredients at its core, each dish was a masterful blend of authenticity and innovation. Making our meal into a dining experience shaped by heritage. To complement our journey, we spoke to the Executive Chef Jack Godik, who unveiled the inspiration behind Sucre’s new summer menu—one that PA Life had the pleasure of sampling firsthand.
Jack Godik, Executive Chef at Sucre
Jack Godik, newly appointed Executive Chef at Sucre, brings a wealth of experience gained from working in restaurants across the globe. His past experience certainly shined through the dishes we tried. Jack grew up as part of a family completely engrossed in the restaurant business. Jack very much has hospitality in his veins. His father, Zeev Godik, founded Gaucho, so Jack is well positioned to provide a clear vision of restaurant operations, and we hope, his own restaurant one day.
At Sucre, Jack’s vision is clear—to craft an experience that transcends mere dining. Every dish is a testament to his creativity and dedication. His approach ensures that Sucre is not just a restaurant, but a destination for those seeking an experience. He certainly delivers this.
The Sucre Experience
At Sucre every visit is a toast to the good life, shared with good company and good food. Taken from the streets of Argentina and its unique heritage outcomes the beauty of simplicity within their food. Jack shares how he finds the best produce, and tries to do as little as possible to certain dishes, to be able to let the quality of the ingredients do the work. Hence, the recognition from the Michelin guide they’ve been awarded, very understandable.
Sucre is located about a 3 minute walk from Oxford street station, very conveniently in the heart of the city. Upon entering you are taken into the grand opening of their gorgeous decorated restaurant. These high ceilings give the restaurant such a grand and luxurious feel. Giving almost a French feel, the whole restaurant is deeply authentic, from the restaurant to the toilets to the food.
Tasting dishes at Sucre
Jack took the lead in selecting a few dishes for us to sample. All from their new summer menu, for the fire dining experience, making us his guinea pigs. We began with a glass of Côtes de Provence, a timeless French favourite, before easing into the set menu. Offering an incredible rate at £24 for two courses or £29 for three, considering starters typically sit around £14. Well priced for such a prime location.
To start we had freshly baked bread with salted butter. Followed by beetroot with dill yoghurt, toasted seeds, and rocket, alongside chorizo with apple and Pommery mustard. Both were balanced, light, fresh, and full of depth. The chorizo in particular, delivered just the right hit of smokiness and salt.
A preview of the new menu followed: thinly sliced pork belly, foie gras, chicken hearts, and prawns, each showcasing impeccable produce. The interplay of flavours was unexpected yet delicious, a testament to Jack’s ability to push boundaries.
For mains, I opted for the corn-fed chicken with almoriglio and confit garlic, while my colleague had the hake with parsnip, bacon, and mushroom ragout. The fire cooking technique elevated each dish, drawing out its natural richness without the heaviness of oil that a lot of restaurants have. Every element was cooked in the finest olive oil.
The team also presented a new fish dish—an absolute standout. Speckled in garlic and chilli oil, this was flaky and airy. Despite the array of plates, Sucre leaves you feeling satisfied yet light, a rare quality in indulgent dining. The purity of ingredients, the integrity of the cooking, and the sheer vibrancy of flavours ensure that this is more than just a meal—it’s an experience.
Don’t forget to pop down for a cocktail at the Alma Bar, just downstairs of Sucre after your fire dining experience.
