Bovingdons Catering has been chosen as exclusive caterer at St John’s Waterloo. The partnership will see Bovingdons become responsible for the commercial operation of the newly refurbished venue. This will include marketing, selling and delivering one-of-a-kind events.
The Grade II* St John’s was launched at the end of January in spectacular fashion during a sustainable venue showcase. The venue has recently completed a £5.5 million restoration by award-winning architect Eric Parry. St John’s vast open nave has been restored and enhanced for worship, concerts and unique events. The crypt has been transformed into a place where community-building, arts, wellbeing, and youth initiatives can thrive.
Bovingdons are thrilled to be the caterer at this exciting venue on London’s South Bank
St John’s is one of most exciting venues on the South Bank, perfect for corporate events, banquets, weddings, fashion shows, product launches, filming and more. Its capacities range from 240 for seated dinners to 600 for standing receptions.
The Revd Canon Giles Goddard, Vicar of St John’s Waterloo, said: “The restoration of St John’s has been a huge and challenging project seen through with hard work and the utmost dedication of all involved. It’s thrilling to feel the building coming to life as we reopen. The congregation and Londoners more widely are already taking the new St John’s to their hearts as they discover how much more accessible, inspiring, and welcoming the spaces are.
One of London’s most sustainable landmarks
St John’s Waterloo is additionally one of London’s most sustainable landmarks, featuring a carbon neutral crypt and 80 solar panels which cover almost all of the south facing roof, making St John’s only the fifth listed church in Central London to have them.
“St John’s has served this special part of London since 1824. We were bombed in the war and rebuilt to serve a different Britain in 1951. Once again restored and transformed, we can be here to meet the needs of London’s diverse communities and to play our part in the city for another 200 years.
Venue hire supports charitable work
“We’re delighted to have Bovingdons on board as our venue partner and we look forward, with them, to welcoming many events guests here. Everyone who chooses St John’s as a venue will be helping to fund the work we do with people at the threshold, including young people, asylum seekers and refugees, and those with experience of homelessness.
Jay Burgesson-Carter, Director at Bovingdons, added: “We are honoured to have been appointed as sole caterer and venue management partner to the truly unique venue that is St John’s. Situated opposite Waterloo mainline station, the busiest train station in the country, the venue offers an extraordinary range of versatile and inspiring spaces for events. It will truly be an honour to work in one of London’s greatest historic buildings, in a setting so rich in heritage.
