Workplace trends to leave in 2025 and to welcome in 2026

With 2026 just around the corner, the way we work is continuing to evolve. From quiet cracking to bare minimum Mondays, 2025 gave workers plenty of food for thought with a new wave of workplace trends. So what to expect in 2026? And which trends should we leave behind, and whatโ€™s next?

To help shape a positive work environment for the year ahead, the experts at Furniture At Work have revealed:

Plenty of food for thought with a new wave of workplace trends

While some of these trends encouraged workers to prioritise work/life balance and to strive within their role, others encouraged employees to simply turn up to work and do the bare minimum.

Toย help shape a positive 2026 work environment, furniture specialists atย Furniture At Workย haveย sharedย the workplace trends that should be left in 2025, and the trends to look out for in 2026.

2025 workplace trends to leave behind

  • Quiet cracking:ย a state ofย burnout where employees feelย unhappy,ย disengaged,ย andย unheard.ย Even thoughย the employee is โ€˜crackingโ€™ theyย remainย in their role due to either feelingย trapped orย worrying about the current job market.ย This emotional collapse is very damagingย and can lead to physical and mental health issues
  • Unnecessaryย workplaceย perks:ย ping pong tables, slides, nap pods?ย Employees want competitive salaries and clear career progressionย as well as genuinely usefulย perksย that will contribute to their overall wellbeing
  • Dry promotions:ย an increase in responsibilities without a change in job title or salary.ย As many businesses are tied with budget constraints often the higher salary or job title changeย wonโ€™tย be given.ย This can really affect morale and have a counter-effect as employees will no strive to do better as they know the moneyย isnโ€™tย coming

Workplace trends to look out for in 2026

  • Reverse mentoring:ย this is where a more junior employee is paired with aย moreย senior colleague.ย The junior employee acts as the mentor, sharing information aroundย newย innovative technologies,ย socialย trends,ย and attitudes. This trendย fostersย a more collaborativeย workย environmentย andย demonstratesย a commitment from leadership to learn from all employees
  • Hiring for human-centric skills:ย with the rise of AI automation, employers will put higher value onย traits that are human led such as interpersonal skills,ย communication,ย and creativity. Hiring activities will have muchย more of a focus of โ€˜soft skillsโ€™
  • Bareย minimumย Monday:ย while a new phrase may be needed, the idea ofย easing into the week and completing lighter tasks on Mondayย can enhance long-term productivity and enhance morale. Say goodbye to those Sundayย scaries!
