Rivers of London โ€“ Ben Aaronovitch

(Gollancz, ยฃ7.99)

Probationary PC Peter Grant has been left to guard a murder scene in Covent Garden when he meets a witness to the crime. Unfortunately for him, the witness is a ghost. Swiftly re-assigned to the Met unit that deals with โ€˜the uncannyโ€™, Peter combines his procedural training with a flair for the supernatural.

This book is part murder hunt and part magical fantasy, but it is all London. PC Grant is first and foremost a policeman and catching the killer relies more on following the evidence than it does on using magic.

I would recommend this book to anyone who has encountered something strange or inexplicable while visiting or living in London.
