Subscribe to the Sound Advice podcast, by Sage, and learn from star entrepreneurs how to grow your business

Sound Advice: get year one in business right, is an inspiring podcast created for the thousands of people who are starting up and growing a small business.

Whatever you want to know, the esteemed business journalist Rebecca Burn-Callandar will tackle it with a super-line-up of globally successful, small business stars. Here is a taste of their expert advice:

Get to know your customers

Understanding your customerโ€™s needs, and developing your products and services accordingly, will help make your business a success. Julien Callede, co-founder at Made.com, explains the value of this in episode two, โ€œ Asking your customer to tell you what might have gone wrong is amazing because they can voice it directly to you.โ€ This feedback allowed Made.com to make numerous changes to improve the business and take it to the next level.

Measure what works

Monitor where your customers are coming from to track your marketing efforts. By using free software such as Google Analytics, start ups can start to gain valuable insights. In episode three, Alec Dobbie, co-founder of FanFinders, explains, โ€œIt has to be metrics driven because otherwise, you get dragged into something and itโ€™s very hard then for you to identify whether youโ€™ve been successful or not.โ€

Keep costs low

Itโ€™s no surprise that to run a successful, growing business you need money. Especially in a post-covid world. Money is survival and the best way to survive is by keeping costs low. In episode six, Sahar Hashemi, co-founder of Coffee Republic, explains, โ€œItโ€™s about keeping your costs as low as you can, so you can survive. You donโ€™t want to run out of money.โ€
