Historic Royal Palaces expands relationship with The Luna Cinema

Historic Royal Palaces to screen Star Wars at the Tower of London

Independent charity Historic Royal Palaces has built on its existing relationship with The Luna Cinema, with the Tower of London now joining Hampton Court Palace and Kensington Palace on the list of venues hosting open-air film screenings this summer.

The inaugural Tower of London season will see the landmarkโ€™s moat turned into an outdoor cinema where film fans will be able to watch a classic film whatever the weather.

Liz Young, Head of Events at Historic Royal Palaces says: โ€œWe have worked with The Luna Cinema for six years hosting their popular open-air film screenings at both Hampton Court Palace and Kensington Palace. We are delighted to expand our relationship by hosting film screenings in the Tower of Londonโ€™s iconic moat for the first time this summer.

โ€œWatching a classic film within such historic settings offers a totally unique and exciting experience for film fans to enjoy and, as part of Historic Royal Palacesโ€™ charitable cause, they will play their part in ensuring the palaces are well maintained and open for all to enjoy as income raised from activities including venue hire is reinvested in conservation, public access and education activities.โ€

The Tower of Londonโ€™s moat will be accessible to film fans for three days in August with a showing of Star Wars โ€“ The Force Awakens on 9 August, Gladiator on 10 August and Baz Luhrmannโ€™s 1996 take on Romeo+Juliet will conclude the Tower of Londonโ€™s run on 11 August.

Hampton Court Palace will be screening Pretty Woman (12 August), Jaws (13 August), Robin Hood: Prince of Thieves (2 September) and Notting Hill (3 September), while Kensington Palace will be showing Spectre (2 August), The Breakfast Club (3 August), Four Weddings and A Funeral (4 August) and Some Like it Hot (5 August).

George Wood, Managing Director of The Luna Cinema says: โ€œWe are delighted to be expanding our relationship with Historic Royal Palaces. Hampton Court Palace and Kensington Palace have made such fantastic settings for cinema under the stars each summer and we are thrilled to invite the public to enjoy classic cinema under the stars in the moat of the Tower of London for the very first time. Not only do these locations provide a truly unique backdrop for a film screening, thereโ€™s a real sense that through these events people are enjoying these unique, historic venues in a new and exciting way.โ€

Tickets cost ยฃ17.50 for adults, while premium tickets โ€“ which include a seat in a prime position, fast-track queuing to the Luna Bar and complimentary drink โ€“ cost ยฃ30.
