And finally… something for the boss

At PA Life we’re devoted to bringing you the very latest news, tips, advice and recommendations on a whole smorgasbord of topics that we hope are of interest to you in your professional lives. Since our most popular stories seem to be those that provide suggestions on how to engender a better working relationship with your executive, we thought we’d ensure you get even more brownie points by bringing you a selection of news items of interest to the boss. In this edition, we look at how managers are being encouraged to embrace new technology.

With evidence suggesting that those businesses that achieve high levels of sustainable employee engagement average an operating margin close to three times higher than other companies, managers are being urged to explore the potential that new technology can play in improving internal communications, employee engagement and the exchange of best practice ideas among staff.

Online learning provider Fuse cites the most recent Towers Watson Global Workforce Study, which shows that highly engaged employees have less absenteeism than disengaged ones. The highly engaged lose an average 3.2 days a year to absenteeism, compared with 4.2 days for the disengaged.

Highly engaged employees are also less likely to leave their employer. As many as 72% of the highly engaged said they would prefer to remain with their employer even if they had a comparable opportunity elsewhere, compared with just 58% of unsupported staff and 28% of disengaged employees.

Fuse CEO Steve Dineen says: “We have seen first hand how the right technology paired with fantastic leadership can boost employee engagement, reduce workplace errors and increase sales margins. [This approach] motivates people to share their knowledge and ideas because finally their voices are being heard.”

Fuse is an online learning and knowledge-sharing solutions provider working with a significant amount of FTSE 100 businesses and more than 50 Fortune 500 companies. Find out more at fusion-universal.com/
