App of the week: Image to Excel

Image to Excel on iPhone

Welcome back to our weekly spotlight on helpfulย apps. We focus on a variety of products that are useful for work, personal use, or both, providing our own thoughts on the apps and what you can do with them. This week we convert documents to spreadsheets quickly using Image to Excel.

An intro to Image to Excel
The brilliant minds at Cometdocs developed Image to Excel to help busy people easily convert images of documents and notes to Excel spreadsheets using their mobile devices.

The app does pretty much what it suggests โ€“ it uses recognition and conversion technology to turn photos of tables, invoices and receipts into Excel spreadsheets that can be shared on the go. Itโ€™s a pretty clever system that doesnโ€™t take up any battery life or other resources because it uses Cometdocsโ€™ own server to convert files. Once your Excel document is ready, your original image is deleted from the server so you can be sure your information is always safe and secure.

Our review
The conversion process can take a bit of time depending on the size of the document youโ€™ve uploaded, but itโ€™s well worth the wait if you need to create an Excel spreadsheet while youโ€™re out and about. You simply take a picture of the item you need converted and then leave the app to do its handiwork while you get on with other tasks.

Image to Excel is free and it comes with unlimited conversions and no maximum file size. If youโ€™re looking for something a bit faster, you can purchase a lifetime premium account for ยฃ7.99, which gives you immediate conversions.

The verdict
This app is great, even if you decide to stick with the free version. It usually only takes around an hour to convert files anyway, so the wait is negligible if you donโ€™t need your Excel document straight away. Iโ€™ve tested it out on various receipts and even an existing Excel sheet, and Iโ€™ve yet to be disappointed by the outcome.
