Are gadgets key to the perfect commute?

The majority of Brits risk burnout due to their gadget obsession

Brits are struggling to leave the house without electronics in their pockets, according to new research. A study by Electric Tobacconist has revealed that alongside essentials such as wallets and keys, electronics are now vital for everyday life.

Itโ€™s unsurprising to reveal that four out of five people will make sure theyโ€™ve packed their phone before leaving the house, but more than half of us consider the gadget so important, theyโ€™re willing to travel back home again should they forget it. One in three Brits would also highly value bigger devices, such as laptops and tablets, and wouldnโ€™t be able to survive the commute without them.

Vapes and smart watches, such as the Apple Watch, were daily essentials for 8% and 7% respectively, while one in 10 rely on activity trackers like the Fitbit to keep on top of their health.

You may have even seen workers playing on video game consoles such as a Nintendo Switch or DS as people are beginning to struggle turning off. 50% of respondents revealed they depend on electronics throughout their daily lives as nationwide gadget addictions become more commonplace.

โ€œItโ€™s probably no surprise that as technologies have become more advanced we have started to rely on them more – whether it be for travel, payment, work or simply managing day to day lives,โ€ said Pascal Culverhouse, founder and CEO of Electric Tobacconist. โ€œHowever, what is quite surprising is how many use them as an emotional crutch, as we are using them for personal pleasure and to help us relax. No matter the time of day, we really do seem to feel lost without them.โ€
