Business travellers seek ways to avoid stress

The mere thought of business travel is usually enough to make us break out in a sweat. However, some travellers would appear to be using their journey as down time to focus on the simple pleasures of life rather than work.

A recent survey conducted by American Express Global Business Travel shows that 72% of frequent business travellers prefer to use the lack of wifi access on flights as a break from work, spending their time instead entertaining themselves with a book or a film. Socialising or networking is not on their agenda, with only one per cent saying they use their time to interact with other passengers. Continuing the practice of mixing pleasure with business, six in 10 of those surveyed said they have extended a business trip in order to take a personal holiday in the past year.

Travellers also seem to be focusing more on personal well-being on the road, as 71% say they drink extra water, 60% stretch on the plane, and 30% use anti-bacterial wipes and hand sanitisers, while 29% use the gym at the hotel. To keep up with diet and nutrition, 27% avoid alcohol and 18% supplement their diet with vitamins.
