Exeter PA network is flying high

Tips on mentoring and coaching were central to the latest Exeter PA network meeting, held at the new Hampton by Hilton, the site of the training academy for Flybe, the UK’s largest domestic carrier.

The event attracted more than 60 delegates and included a tour of the new hotel and a visit to Flybe’s flight simulators. To begin the proceedings, Rebecca Richardson, Executive Assistant to international entrepreneur John Scarisbrick, took part in an interview; this was followed by a presentation from Michelmores Solicitors’ HR Manager Liz Shaw, who spoke about the benefits of mentoring and coaching.

“The network is growing in popularity as a way of improving business skills and interpersonal communication, while having fun at the same time. The Exeter network is thriving, as is the one in Plymouth, and we understand a Bristol network is also in the process of being formed,” commented event organiser Kim Glover, PA to the Managing Partner at Michelmores.

Kim added that following a review of the audience’s reaction to the talk on coaching, the group is now looking to launch a mentoring hub for the Exeter PA community.

PAs from across Exeter will be given the opportunity to take part in the scheme, which will promote peer-to-peer partnerships. These are designed to help the less experienced develop their careers by sharing practical advice and best practice, thereby providing benefits to both the individuals participating and the businesses for which they work.

The Exeter PA Network, which is supported by the Exeter Chamber of Commerce, offers personal assistants and other admin professionals the opportunity to meet and exchange experiences in an informal and relaxed environment. It was set up in June last year, after founder Kim Glover was inspired by the success of the Plymouth PA network.

The next event in the region will be held in Plymouth in October, followed by one in Exeter that is scheduled to take place in January 2014. Details of both events and the mentoring scheme can be found on the network’s Linkedin page at linkedin.com/groups/Exeter-PA-Network-5092593/about.
