Finally My Ambulance

Finally My Ambulance – Joseph Smith

(Jonathan Cape, £14.99)

This book invites you to embark on a journey via 13 short stories connected by theme and tone. I’m not sure exactly what journey the book took me on as I found the writing didn’t flow from story to story.

Finally My Ambulance was the longest, written in an easier style to read than some of the others, which I could have happily skipped through.

The subjects are thought-provoking, covering matters such as war, slavery and death, but because the stories are short it’s difficult to build an interest in the characters. It’s hard to pick up rather than hard to put down, but I did like the cover illustration.
