Former assistant arrested for stealing Bronson Arroyo’s yacht

Major League Baseball pitcher Bronson Arroyo’s former assistant was arrested Monday in Tampa, Florida after allegedly selling the player’s luxury yacht.

Anthony Acosta originally told Arroyo the $167,000 (£109,000) yacht had sunk. In reality, he allegedly secretly moved the boat to a different location in Florida.

Acosta was fired in 2012 and allegedly sold the yacht to a couple in 2013 for $22,000 (£14,300). The new owners recently discovered there was a lien on the boat and contacted Arroyo when they couldn’t reach Acosta, which is when the player discovered his signature had been forged during the sale.

Acosta was arrested and booked into the Hillsborough County Jail on $50,000 (£32,500) bond. He is facing charges of grand theft larceny and forgery, according to the Florida Department of Law Enforcement.
