Former Delta EA accused of embezzling

A former Delta Air Lines executive assistant is facing federal wire fraud charges. Emily McElwaney is accused of embezzling more than $250,000 (£165,188) from the company by abusing a corporate credit card.

McElwaney was employed as the EA to two senior vice presidents at Delta. According to federal documents, she allegedly used her corporate credit card to make payments for personal expenses from 2007 to 2014.

It is believed McElwaney then used a colleague’s credentials to log in to Delta’s expense management system to approve her charges as if they were legitimate businesses transactions.

A Delta representative says the company investigated McElwaney’s conduct and turned the matter over to the authorities. She is due in court on 19 January.
