Rebecca Hurley, Deputy Head of Events at BMA House, has seen her fair share of conferences, so what does she think is key to hosting a successful event in 2016?

Here are some essential things to remember if you are about to plan the conference of the year.

Stay engaging
It doesnโ€™t always have to be online digital! While Interaction needs to be top of the agenda for anyone planning a meeting or conference in 2016, people can do without a screen in front of them. Introduce a graffiti board or creative space and mix low-tech with hi-tech to get delegates using their senses and creativity with old-fashioned things like paper! This allows for face-to-face interaction and helps get the conversation flowing.

Find a different speaker
Think about someone who appeals to your audience outside work. Stay relevant and on trend, but choose someone who can relate to your audience or feels passionate about an element of the business, while introducing fun. An exciting speaker makes for good table talk.

Connect well
Wifi connectivity is essential, as we all know, but make sure that your venue has sufficient bandwidth, especially if you are running a BIG event that requires 200 or more people connecting or streaming information all at the same time!

Get out there!
Donโ€™t forget, the more you can network the more you will connect with resourceful people. Get yourself along to as many industry events as you can. Eventopedia runs regular seminars, where you can pick up on new tips and tricks. Donโ€™t forget to sign up for local corporate open days.
