PA Life readers reveal they don’t need Michelin stars

Michelin starred restaurants aren’t a major selling point when it comes to PAs booking places to eat, latest results reveal.

Our latest twitter poll asked you how important Michelin stars are when it comes to booking restaurants and venues, and none of the respondents considered it a necessity. Nearly half of those taking part in the poll admitted they’ve never once had to book a Michelin-starred site, although two in three surveyed have had past experience.

Around a third admitted that clients prefer the Michelin treatment (don’t we all), but just as many said it was rare to actually deal with a Michelin starred venue, with plenty of other options available and Tried & Tasted by us in our reviews section!

The results follow news that Michelin dining doesn’t have the same allure it used to, with some star holders turning down the coveted award after disappointing sales. French Chef Sebastien Bras even went as far as to ask to be stripped of all three of his restaurant’s stars after being sick of the unnecessary pressure and responsibility expected, according to The Herald.

“Diners no longer want waiters with white gloves, linen tablecloths and food cooked with many different aspects and technical detail,” said Mrs Wendy Matheson to the Herald. “They want good local Scottish food and no stuffiness in the restaurant.”

Are you put off Michelin starred restaurants or does the accolade still hold the same shine it did 20 years ago? Let us know on TwitterFacebook or LinkedIn.
