Support staff skimping on lunch

A survey of UK employees shows that a third of admin professionals take 15 minutes or less for lunch. The data also reveals that a shocking number of support staff spend breaks at their desk.

The Robert Walters Career Lifestyle Survey found that an average of 41% in all roles take at least 30 minutes for lunch, but only 26% of admin professionals do the same. That number is second only to those in human resources.

In addition, the research reveals the main reasons employees state for leaving their job for another company. Lack of career progression came in at the top of the list, (35%) followed by working for a difficult boss, (22%) long office hours and a negative company culture (21%). Those surveyed also cited a disappointing salary review, lack of a bonus, limited flexible working options and poor relationships with colleagues.

Admin professionals who are in the market for a new job might find their search a bit easier, as other Robert Walters research shows that the secretarial and support sector grew across London and the southeast by 55% compared to quarter one of last year. Jobs in the north are also on the up at 40%, while the Midlands saw an increase of 22%.
