The UnAmericans โ€“ Molly Antopol

(HarperCollins, ยฃ12.99)

People have strong feelings towards short stories: theyโ€™re enjoyable because you can read them in one sitting, but frustrating because they leave you wanting more. I have always been in the latter camp, but reading this collection has convinced me that fully developed plots are not solely the reserve of the novel.

This collection of short stories is about Jewish heritage. Even though it might be difficult to identify with the situations, the feelings are universally touching. Combining different points of view and commanding an emotive response are the authorโ€™s strengths, and I look forward to reading more from this young writer.
