At the Yorkshire Event Centre and Pavilions of Harrogate, sustainability isn’t just a priority—it’s a commitment. Our green credentials are growing year by year and with sustainability high on the agenda for many organisations, we will work with you to achieve your event sustainability objectives.

Commitment to sustainability at the Great Yorkshire Showground

Reducing our environmental impact is a long-term priority on the Great Yorkshire Showground. At present, we have achieved the following:

• BREEAM Rating – Good.
  The Yorkshire Event Centre meets the approved environmental standards for energy and resource efficiency.
• Reduced Waste.
  All on-site waste is recycled or converted back into energy.
• Sustainable Catering
  Our on-site catering services use recycled food packaging, wooden cutlery, and paper straws.
• Solar Power
  There are 960 solar panels on the roof of the Yorkshire Event Centre which generates renewable energy, therefore reducing our grid dependency.
• Energy Reporting
  The Yorkshire Event Centre and Pavilions of Harrogate use a detailed building management system that can provide our clients with a report on their event’s energy usage.
• EV Charging
  Multiple electrical vehicle charging stations located across the site.
• Award-Winning Venue
  The Yorkshire Event Centre and Pavilions of Harrogate have both received gold Green Awards for Sustainability.

The Yorkshire Event Centre is located on Great Yorkshire Showground which is owned by the Yorkshire Agricultural Society. The Society is undertaking a detailed mapping exercise which is part of a sustainable long-term vision and will measure the current abundance of biodiversity and carbon capture capacity, as well the potential to enhance these further.

A non-departmental public body focusing on the environment held their all-team meeting at the Yorkshire Event Centre YEC for 2,000 delegates. This was the first time the team had been together since before the pandemic and they chose the Yorkshire Event Centre as our sustainability policies aligned.
