Xerox installs one-person offices on Tokyo subway

Do you work for someone who’s always on the move and difficult to pin down? Well, Xerox has introduced a new service for the mobile professional – tiny one person offices on train platforms.

It sounds bonkers, and it’s only available on the Tokyo subway system for now, but Japanese tech giant says its phone box-like solution will make life easier for white-collar workers who are teleworking.

Currently on trial, it works like this: Each box offers a desk, chair, power points, screen and internet access, with users required to make reservations in advance using the accompanying app or website in 15 minute intervals.

The trial is taking place between June and September this year, with Xero saying it will make a decision on any wider deployment after analysing the results.

We can’t wait for this to come to the UK, if only so we can lock ourselves away when the commuting crowds become too much.
