How to bring modern twists into traditional venues this Christmas

one Birdcage Walk how to bring a modern twist into traditional venues at Christmas

One Birdcage Walk loves leaning into their traditional setting at Christmas time. The Elizabethan style Library, dating back to 1899, poses the most picturesque backdrop for a Victorianesque Christmas.

Let’s hear what their events team are planning for the festive season ahead: “That said, we never want to rest on our laurels and being a team of enthusiastic events professionals, we are always looking for new ways to bring some modern touches into our events.

Here are some of our favourite ways to incorporate modern flair into traditional venues for your next Christmas party:

  • Replace canapes with appetising food stations – Forget the old standard of passed canapés, why not add some food stations to your seasonal spectacular? One or two food stalls can add a visually incredible element to your next event, not only providing a unique dining experience for your guests but also entertainment as chefs get to show off their skills in real time. You can stick with the traditional Christmas menu or even branch out into something unique, like a raw fish bar, or interactive, like a build-your-own kebab! Long gone are the days where the only options are limited and repetitive, now you can work with caterers such as Company of Cooks to create your ideal dining experience.
  • Increase the ambience with festive lighting – The space may be traditional, but that doesn’t mean the lighting has to be. At One Birdcage Walk our favourite additions to our Christmas setups are little twilight trees that light up with LED lights and create a fresh modern look against the Oak panelling of our Library. We also love adding a pop of coloured lights to brighten up the Marble Hall and Gallery for some after dinner dancing. You can also bring in lighting projections to create bespoke imagery on the walls of the Gallery and add another layer to your Christmas Party.
  • Create an inviting atmosphere with soft furnishings – Days are shorter, the nights are darker, and the desire to curl up in a cosy corner with a drink (or two) is strong come November. You might be having a standing reception as your Christmas Party, but have you considered adding cosy seating nooks to your venue space? You can easily rent furniture to add to your party and having some gorgeous leather sofas or velvet armchairs create a warm and inviting atmosphere in almost any space. Especially for smaller more intimate events, adding some soft furnishings can transform your event from formal to fun in an instant.

No matter how or where you plan to celebrate this holiday season, giving one of these a try will surely bring a touch of the 21st century into any traditional space.
