App of the Week: 1tap receipts

logoPlenty of us struggle to keep on top of our finances โ€“ particularly at this time of year โ€“ but when keeping on top of your expenses or the expenses of others, losing track isnโ€™t something you can afford to do. If you find yourself buried under a pile of receipts and donโ€™t know how to keep on top of your expenditure, 1tap receipts might just be your kind of app.

The process is simple; sign in with Facebook or Google and then take a picture of your receipt with your phone. The app will then process the image for relevant information and list the data in a digestible feed that automatically registers the company that issued the receipt and relevant HMRC expense category, which includes wages, equipment repair, bank charges as well as food and travel.

Organisers and PAs who deal with business travel will also benefit from their automatic currency conversion as well, as 1tap looks to simplify the financial process as much as it can with its โ€˜virtual bookkeepingโ€™ philosophy. VAs or those dealing with taxes can even use the app to automatically create a self-assessment form or a basic CSV based on your expenses through the app. You donโ€™t need to worry about filling your phoneโ€™s memory with picture after picture of receipts either, as all photos taken through 1tap are securely stored on their cloud.

For those looking to use 1tap regularly will need to take advantage of their paid subscription however, as the free version only lets you scan up to 10 receipts a month, so see how beneficial the app is to you before committing to the ยฃ40 yearly subscription.

The verdict
1tap receipts is incredibly simple to use and make the most of, and could be a game changer for PAs, VAs and event organisers that have to regularly deal with finances. The biggest turn-off for many will be the colossal size of the app. The app has taken up a rather surprising 74 megabytes of storage space, which is around twice that of previous App of the Week Best Coffee. The size of the download and the amount of space that it takes up on your phone will put off plenty, but if you have space to spare the app definitely holds value, and Iโ€™d recommend giving it a trial.

This app is available for Apple and Android phones, and you can learn more via their website. Will you use 1tap receipts? Let us know on Twitter, Facebook or LinkedIn.
