You built a successful career as a Private PA for A-listers and UHNW families. What were the highs and lows of that life?

There were many incredible experiences and opportunities that came with the role. I worked with fascinating individuals, travelled to amazing places and was involved in projects that most people only see from afar. There was never a dull moment, and each day brought a new challenge. The lows were the unpredictability and the pressure that comes from lack of clear boundary between work and personal time. It required resilience, discretion and the ability to stay calm under pressure.

What attracted you to the corporate world from the high-life of a Private PA?

I was looking for  a different challenge and a greater sense of long-term purpose. I was attracted to ENGIE for the opportunity to contribute to a business that is helping drive the energy transition and a more sustainable future. The skills I developed as a Private PA are still very relevant, and I can apply them within a business environment.

What advice would you give to PAs looking to move into Private PA work?

Firstly, understand that private service is very different from a traditional corporate support role. It requires flexibility, discretion and a service mindset. You must be comfortable dealing with highly personal matters alongside professional responsibilities. Build strong organisational skills, learn to anticipate needs rather than simply react to requests, and always maintain professionalism. Trust is everything in private service and your reputation will often be your greatest asset. Finally, be prepared to work hard, and ensure you establish healthy boundaries wherever possible.

What’s the best advice you’ve ever been given? Do you have a favourite quote?

“Stay humble, keep learning and never underestimate the power of kindness.” Throughout my career, I have found that technical skills can be taught, but attitude and how you treat people need to come from you. One of my favourite quotes is: “Success is not the key to happiness. Happiness is the key to success. If you love what you are doing, you will be successful.” Albert Schweitzer.

As a PA Life Club member, what do you value most about the network?

I value the sense of community. We can sometimes feel isolated because so much of our work happens behind the scenes. Being part of a network like PA Life provides opportunities to connect with people who truly understand the role and its unique challenges. It’s also a fantastic source of learning, inspiration and sharing best practice, discovering new technology or simply exchanging experiences with fellow assistants, the network helps us grow professionally while reminding us that we’re part of a much larger community.
