Gain a moral compass with Clearwater Events

The recent horrendous attacks in Tunisia have left many PA?s questioning which areas are now safe to organise events. There are many countries that advocate laws not aligned with our own. Yet, when it comes to arranging events, we often consider these countries as desirable places to visit. There are many event destinations that go against our human rights policy, albeit political, sexuality, gender equality, disabilities, children?s, or workers? rights.

So, do PA?s have a moral responsibility when it comes to event and hospitality management?

We all talk about CSR. However, is it possible that modern CSR isn?t about saving paper, turning off light switches and using local suppliers? It?s possibly about understanding the destinations and providers we engage with.

Clearwater Events wants to use suppliers and promote destinations that share a similar ethos to your own. Is the team right to assume their clients want to be informed and have their events guided by a moral compass rather than one that meets the needs of their brief? Based on what happened in Tunisia, Clearwater believes a moral compass is incredibly important when planning events.

A moral compass isn?t a tool, rather an understanding of what?s ?delegate safe?. It?s common sense based upon understanding the demographics of your delegates and comparing these with the destination and the needs of your event brief. Questions to consider:

? Is there political or economic unrest?
? Is it illegal to be gay, or do woman have equal rights at the event destination?
? Have there been terrorist threats or attacks? A quick internet search shows the dangers.
? Plan ahead and ensure everyone understands potential risks and threats before confirming the event.
? Set up a crises management and emergency plan if things do go wrong.
? Call in the experts, ask for professional event advice and guidance on all of the above.
