A Very Murray Christmas

Nothing signals the countdown to Christmas quite like mince pies, gingerbread, mulled wine and a feel-good film.

To kick-start the festive season, Rosewood Hotels and Resorts invited PA Life for an evening of a cornucopia of delights – think warm toddies, popcorn and pic n mix sweet treats, plus an intimate screening of Bill Murray’s holiday special ‘A Very Murray Christmas’ (now available on Netflix FYI).

Filmed at The Carlyle A Rosewood Hotel, in just three days, the special boasts an all-star cast. The film stars Bill Murray as a singer whose Christmas Eve cabaret act at the Carlyle Hotel goes wrong when New York is shut down by a blizzard. So he improvises, with the help of his famous friends: George Clooney, Miley Cyrus, Michael Cera, Chris Rock, Amy Poehler, Julie White and Phoenix. The hour-long one-off re-unites Murray with his Lost in the Translation director, Sofia Coppola. The special’s mini stocking-stuffer performances create something classic, sweet and poignant. It’s a little boozy, fabulously festive (albeit slightly obscure) with lashings of cheer.

The Rosewood is a Belle Epoque marvel, and at this time of year, the hotel is at its best. The majestic, domed carriage entrance at 252 High Holborn glistens – the cobbled courtyard is seductively lit by lanterns and there’s fairy lights galore. Jazz wafts through the air upon arrival, setting the mood before you even step into the foyer.

So if your passing and want respite from the cold, duck in to Scarfes Bar, settle into one of their cosy velvet armchairs next to the roaring fire and take a tipple.
