On our recent stay at Madrid Marriott Hotel Princesa Plaza, PA Life had a taste of the 50-year-old Madrid icon that’s always been a leading hotel venue for meetings and conferences in the Spanish capital. Today, after its total renovation completed in 2025, the hotel attracts corporate clients who demand style, substance and convenience of a quality conference hotel, not forgetting its strong appeal to leisure travellers either. Definitely a venue for EAs, PAs and other event organisers to have in their shortlist..
Madrid Marriott Hotel Princesa Plaza great location
The hotel is conveniently located in the smart neighbourhood of Chamberí and Argüelles, just a short walk from Plaza de España, the Royal Palace, The Opera and the Temple of Debod. Guests can also easily find great restaurants and shopping in the area that cater for different tastes. And for history lovers, there is a rare gem almost next door – the Liria Palace, one of Madrid’s most remarkable historic landmarks and a true cultural gem of the neighbourhood. Still privately owned by the House of Alba, one of Spain’s most historic noble families, the palace houses an extraordinary private art collection and centuries of heritage.
The location is also well served by excellent transport links, including the Metro that will take you to the airport – Aeropuerto Madrid Barajas – in less than 40 minutes, and the Principe Pio train station is also just a few minutes away. If you prefer booking a taxi for your executives, that usually takes less than 30 minutes, depending on traffic.
Madrid Marriott Hotel Princesa Plaza – a new gastronomic destination
Food and drink are central to the experience at the hotel which has positioned itself as a gastronomic destination in Madrid with the opening of its new restaurant La Chata, Abacería Castiza, and La Mimosa, its signature cocktail bar. These reflect the essence of Madrid, blending tradition with a modern take on the fantastic food and drink they serve.
We arrived at lunch time, and had a chance to experience the La Mimosa Coctelería Coqueta, terrace in the sunshine, ahead of its official opening time. La Mimosa is the hotel’s cocktail bar and social hub during the warmer months, open from 5:30pm until 1am Tuesday to Saturday. We had to give the signature cocktails, inspired by the city, a go. They were delicious. It’s relaxing setting to unwind, connect, and start discovering Madrid’s vibrant spirit. It’s popular with locals too, especially when live Spanish guitar music entertains the guests at weekend evenings.
Our lunch at La Chata, Abacería Castiza included a great selection of their classic dishes such as acorn-fed Iberian ham served with crystal bread and tomato, Santoña anchovies with sour cream, and Russian salad with tuna belly. You can also enjoy signature dishes including Madrid-style tripe with potatoes, alongside timeless classics such as confit cod with pil pil and piquillo peppers, and braised beef cheeks with mashed potatoes. If you prefer fresh
er options such as salmon tartare with avocado or extra-sweet tomato salad with León Cecina, these come highly recommended too.
La Chata also serves a weekly-changing executive menu designed for those wishing to enjoy a quick lunch, without compromising on quality. Priced very competitively €19 per person.
Meeting and event spaces at Madrid Marriott Hotel Princesa Plaza
The hotel has always been well-known for its meetings and events facilities, and since its extensive renovations has set a new benchmark for quality MICE tourism in Madrid. The venue provides over 1,200 m² of naturally lit, state‑of‑the‑art event space across 12 versatile spaces. These vary from meeting rooms to the Chamberí Ballroom. The vast 457 m² grand ballroom is a modular hall that can host up to 375–400 guests and is supported by advanced AV technology and high‑speed connectivity. An expert in‑house events team is at hand to ensure your conferences and celebrations will run flawlessly.
We were impressed by the natural decor and clever us of the spaces, and the natural light that floods most spaces. The event spaces are served by an attractive lobby area of its own that is a great space for drinks receptions and coffee breaks during events.
We were treated to a taster session to experience what a banquet dinner would entail.
The four-course, specially curated banquet dinner celebrated traditional “cocina castiza” and locally sourced products offering an authentic taste of Madrid’s culinary heritage. Everything was exquisitely presented and very delicious, and served by wonderful staff. Great wines were chosen to pair well with the food.
We enjoyed mango salmorejo with prawn tartare as a starter. This was followed by line-caught hake in green sauce with clams, and a meat course of suckling pig terrine with red berries. For dessert we were served pineapple carpaccio with rum and pink peppercorns.
The venue team can work with event organisers on creating a bespoke menu should you wish to do so.
