PA Life visited the London Marriott Hotel County Hall, to check out their new balcony rooms. The well-known landmark property lies in the heart of Westminster, where tradition meets sophistication in contemporary British style.
Stay at London Marriott Hotel County Hall with their newly refurbished rooms
The hotel is conveniently located just a five minute walk from Waterloo station. Its 241 newly refurbished rooms are understated yet refined, finished with sculptural panelling that adds a contemporary edge. Among the building, 35 new balcony rooms and suites have been added that offer elevated views across Londonโs skyline. It’s a clever way to bring the city a little closer which we embraced with our eye line of the London Eye from the Thames-facing room we stayed in. The room was immaculate, understated yet stylish, and the bed was super comfortable.
The rooms and suites capture a contemporary British style, with marble bathrooms, luxury bedding and spacious layouts. The hotel offers a refined yet playful atmosphere, hosting an immersive experience for guests that also celebrates the hotelโs iconic legacy.
For those seeking a more intimate experience, the Balcony Rooms offer a personal escape with unmatched 180-degree perspectives of the River Thames, while the Loft Rooms present a unique layout with a staircase leading to a private viewing platform.
Eat and drink and The Gillray’s Steakhouse
The large hotel lobby is the heart of the hotel. Tucked around the corner, is Gillrayโs Steakhouse & Bar. Itโs relaxed space is welcoming, and guests can settle in with one of their new Portuguese PER SE cocktail spritzersโbest enjoyed as the sun sets over the London Eye and Big Ben. My favourite was ‘The Sunset’, of which the lovely waitress confirmed id love, and she definitely was not wrong. At The Marriot Hotels, the staff are always so kind, it is always such a highlight of my experience. They are personable and take great care of your stay every time.
Our Meal
The menu centres around locally sourced steaks, while having an impressive collection of over 120 gin anchors and both classic and inventive cocktails. For starters we tried the Garlic Fried Squid and Citrus Grilled Tiger Prawns. My partner and I are huge fish lovers, and have had many prawn dishes. However, this certainly did not disappoint. For the main dish I had the Rump Steak with Green Peppercorn and Brandy Sauce and my partner had the Sirloin with Veal & Malbec Jus. We paired this with Truffle and Parmesan Fries, which had a generous sharing and were perfectly crispy. This meal was excellent, and the staff were incredibly attentive, but not overbearing.
The striking chandeliers cast a warm glow, and floor-to-ceiling windows frame uninterrupted views of the Thames, making it a setting that feels indulgent but also very comfortable. The restaurant is on the pricier side, which you can expect with the location and the view, with the steaks around ยฃ40 and cocktails at ยฃ18.
Looking for an afternoon tea spot? Enjoy a quintessentially British experience at The Library. The Marriot Hotels host their award-winning afternoon tea in the historic Library, with views over the River Thames and Big Ben that make every moment unforgettable.
Our experience
We had an incredible experience checking out the new balcony rooms at London Marriott Hotel County Hall. PA Life would definitely recommend if you are looking for a night in London, or wanting to book their meeting space. Typically priced at ยฃ300 a night, included with breakfast, is a cost effective way to enjoy a luxurious night in the city without spending thousands.
The Grade II listed building was opened in 1922 by King George V and Queen Mary as the headquarters of the local government in London, meaning the building and its wood panelled chambers have witnessed many important moments in London history. The 20th century historic Library was the former home to London County Council and has welcomed politicians and royalty for centuries, and now it welcomes guests for a truly British afternoon tea experience.
