Hospitality review: Coldplay with Club Wembley

chris-martin-coldplay-2022-world-tour-club-wembley

What a fantastic evening at Coldplay’s sixth and final gig of their Music of the Spheres World Tour!  Our Editor, Marja-Leena, was lucky to be there on August 21st to enjoy one of the best of the UK’s rock legends, Coldplay, with Club Wembley.

“We arrived in good time at the club’s Bobby Moore suite to soak up the atmosphere of the iconic Wembley Stadium before the main act would take to the stage. I’m so glad we did as Club Wembley had laid out a great buffet style dinner for everyone. There was an American themed selection of burgers, chicken wings, hot dogs, potato salad, pizza, chilli con carne, fries and more with yummy cookies and a whole trolley of other delicious desserts to choose from. I opted for a very tasty Indian instead and thoroughly enjoyed my Chicken Tikka and veggie samosa.

The Club is a very comfortable space, and stylish too, and concert nights are hosted as an informal evening, when during football matches it’s a much more formal dinner set up making it great for corporate hospitality.

There was plenty of sofa areas as well as dining tables for chilling at whilst sipping complimentary wine or beer and enjoying the tunes played by the resident DJ. There was even a makeup artist to beautify our faces with lovely sparkly decorations. This was hugely popular and at the end we abandoned the queue in favour of catching the last tunes of London Grammar who were warming up for Coldplay.

It was finally time to welcome the main act on stage. Wembley was packed with close to 80,000 fans in the audience and the atmosphere was incredible. The band and Chris Martin their frontman and singer are incredible performers as you’d know and they gave us their best with all time favourites such as Yellow, Fix You and A Sky Full of Stars as well as a couple of new songs too.

We were treated for an amazing surprise at the end when Stormzy joined the Chris to sing ‘Blinded by Your Crace Pt.1’. Coldplay have welcomed to the stage a different star each night during this tour, including Natalia Imbruglia, Alan Partrigde and Shaznay Lewis.

The audience were all wearing LED wristbands with changing colour lights and these really were a great add-on and created a fantastic scene of the audience.

The only thing to fault on this fabulous night was Tfl – funny as Chris Martin even thanked them for working on Sunday night making his concert possible after it had been postponed due to a rail strike earlier. Tfl totally let us all down by not arranging enough tube trains that would run until the music fans had managed to make their way back to London and to other train stations to transport them home. What a chaos it turned out to be with the last tube out of Wembley Park station at 11:50, leaving many thousands stranded, trying to cram into a few night buses or to find a taxi somehow. Where were the coaches? Why didn’t trains and the tube run later?  This wasn’t an isolated incident either as similar chaos has been reported from many other recent music events at Wembley Stadium.
