PA Life’s editor escaped the winter weather to enjoy a hearty lunch at what’s fast becoming one of Clapham’s best loved gastropubs – The Ox. This South West London gem has undergone an extensive renovation during 2024 before opening its doors in October, joining the family of pubs with the the Rose & Crown in Clapham being one of them…
The Ox has maintained plenty of the old charm and original features but upgraded the finish with contemporary furnishings to create a stunning and welcoming pub. As well as the main bar and ‘the snug’, thereโs also a restaurant on the mezzanine level and a rooftop terrace. Plus a great private events space, The Playroom, perfect for your team socials when you want something different outside of central London.
What was our Sunday lunch like at The Ox Clapham?
We decided to visit on a Sunday afternoon to sample a traditional roast lunch, which The Ox do very well and pulls a large crowd to enjoy each weekend. Food is at the heart of what The Ox is about – they serve a modern British menu that’s interestingly seasoned with Asian accents. Our roasts were true to t heir heritage though and delicious I must add. We chose roast beef and chicken – both came with a generous helping of roast vegetable and a mouthwatering Yorkshire pudding of course. Our neighbouring table loved the cauliflower roast option – we all shared comments about our courses freely with pretty much the whole of the snug – that sums up the friendly atmosphere of The Ox nicely.
With top notch food at the heart of The Ox, expect a modern, elevated British menu, peppered with Asian accents. Be one of the first to experience this brand-new Clapham gastropub and enjoy:
