App of the week: Airtasker

The job of being an assistant is non-stop, with a lot of assistants working around the clock depending on the requirements of their boss. Because of this, it can be difficult to get the little tasks done around the house. From cleaning to admin, you don’t always have the time to get the job done.

Airtasker is a job sharing app that allows you to advertise household or workplace jobs and tasks, which people complete for payment. It can cover a range of different categories from admin to gardening and much more, working in a similar vein to the ride-sharing app Uber, but for work.

How does it work:

When you first log into the app, you get the choice of logging in as someone that wants to advertise jobs or complete tasks, or even both.

Uploading a task takes between 30 seconds and two minutes depending on the task and level of detail you require from it. If you need someone to come round and mow the lawn, the task is a quick upload, if you are uploading a task such as language translation projects or expenses spreadsheets, then the level of detail is going to be greater. Pick the price you want to pay for the task to be completed, then upload the job and wait for people to contact you about taking on the task.

When the task is completed, both users can give the other a rating out of five stars.

As mentioned above you can also accept tasks via the app. As an assistant, you will most likely, be very good already at sorting out expense reports, however, this app allows you to earn some quick money doing these tasks for someone else.

Airtasker insurance is provided by XL Catlin. This means taskers on Airtasker are covered for liability to third parties when it comes to personal injury or property damage (terms and conditions apply) – so you can post or earn with peace of mind.

Can I use it at work?

The great thing about this app is that it allows you to use it for work and social. So, if you require anyone from a painter/decorator for your house to hiring someone to recommend a nice restaurant for a work event, you can find both using this app.

The app is currently free to download and available on the Apple Appstore, Android PlayStore and on most other smartphone device app stores.

Airtasker could genuinely help assistants get tasks done quicker and give them more time to enjoy their social life. It’s not revolutionary technology but it’s being optimised to help you, help yourself. For a job sharing app, it’s quick to use, upload and accept jobs, making it ideal for an assistant with very little time to spare.
