From the desk of Penelope Alice, Britain’s most fabulous PA: Hampton by Hilton London Waterloo launch

My latest night on the town was at the Hampton by Hilton London Waterloo launch event. Hampton is meant to be the “budget” cousin of the Hilton family of hotels, but the new property at Waterloo looks classy to me.

The lobby where the reception was held features some popular design aspects of modern hotels: mood lighting, a chic bar and oodles of convenient workspace for business travellers.

There was plenty of champagne and juice to go around the large crowd and our delicious canapés for the evening included my guilty pleasure – jalapeno peppers with hot cream cheese – as well as smoked salmon on toast, piri piri chicken skewers and mini pork pastries, plus plenty of veggie options.

My tour of the venue showcased small, yet incredibly functional rooms with comfy mattresses and sofa beds for extra guests. Each room is decorated with a different picture of an iconic London landmark. Located just a five-minute walk from Waterloo station, the views are stunning – the Shard on one side of the building and the London Eye on the other.

The four meeting spaces on the ground floor are functional and stylish. Funky green chairs line the boardroom table and one wall displays the black-and-white image of a serene forest, adding depth to the room.

It may be easy on the corporate spend, but this hotel does not fail to deliver on detail – perfect for those important meetings. Have a look for yourself at tinyurl.com/q4vca36.
