From the desk of Penelope Alice, Britain’s most fabulous PA: My Chocolate workshop

If diamonds are a girl’s best friend, then chocolate must be the one she secretly cheats on the gems with. I’m no stranger to indulging in the sweet treat, which is why last night’s PA Life event at My Chocolate in the heart of the City of London was deliciously perfect.

Our workshop started with a lesson on identifying the quality of dark chocolate based on taste and texture. Our amazing instructor, Davis, then explained to us that low-quality chocolate is made with some nasty ingredients, such as vanilla flavouring made from paper pulp – can anybody say “gross”?

Then the fun really got started. Our project for the night was chocolate truffles, a particular favourite of mine. After a brief demonstration, we were put into teams and set loose with a huge bowl of melted chocolate – dangerous around a group of ladies – and got to work on our dainty morsels. It’s messy work if you’ve never done it before, but that just means you get to lick the leftovers off your fingers when you’re finished making them.

When our chocolates had set, we were given cute little golden boxes and silver ribbon to package our truffles as any decent chocolatier would; too bad my perfect wrapping didn’t last long – I ripped into it for the sweets as soon as I got home!

If you’re looking for an edible team-building activity, My Chocolate offers a fun and educational session. Check out the website at mychocolate.co.uk.
