From the desk of Penelope Alice, Britain’s most fabulous PA: Harrods Christmas showcase

Where did 2014 go? It’s hard to believe that Christmas is right around the corner. Of course, that means I need to start buying gifts for all of Mr P’s clients. Luckily, I was invited to the Harrods winter showcase event at the Bulgari Hotel to get all the details of the luxury company’s best seasonal hampers.

The Bulgari is a true high-class venue. I felt slightly underdressed as a doorman in top hat and coat tails greeted me, but inside I found a relaxed atmosphere and friendly staff. The showcase took place downstairs in the hotel’s ballroom, which features a grand black-and-gold entrance hall and sophisticated décor throughout.

To get us in the festive mood, Harrods had set up wonderful Christmas trees around the whole room and each display table was covered in fake snow with touches of red and green. As is usual at this type of event, I found it difficult not to drool over all of the yummy goodies contained in each hamper. Some of the suppliers, such as the East India Company and Ladurée, were kind enough to provide samples of some of their delicious treats.

One of my favourite things about Harrods is that you can choose from a wide range of collections to suit your budget. Some of the basic hampers start at under £50, while the aptly-named “Decadence” option comes in at a whopping £20,000. All of them come complete with anything from chocolates to savoury snacks, as well as wine, champagne and rare spirits.
