International paella competition inspires team-building exercises for business

What inspires an event caterer to provide team-building exercises for business? Specialist event caterer the Paella Fella has returned from competing in the 55th International Paella Competition in a town called Sueca in Valencia, Spain. The competition is to prepare and cook from scratch a traditional Valencian paella on an open fire made of orange bough. It’s easier said than done, especially when you have only two hours to complete the task.

Competing against up to 30 chefs from across Spain and all around the world, the art of cooking a traditional Valencian paella is revered as the holy grail in the world of paella lovers.

Preparing and cooking two corn-fed chickens, two rabbits, three types of traditional beans, tomatoes, garlic and saffron in 30 degrees of heat against the clock is challenging, especially as you have to create the stock and flavour of the paella in the cooking process.

Paella Fella owner and Director Nick Blythe says: “The combination of my previous background in business development and IT along with running sales and marketing teams, together with visiting the competition as a spectator and then participating previously in 2013 gave me the inspiration for the Paella Fella Team Build Day.”
