The Meetings Show Tomorrow’s Talent Winner spotlight: Katie Pollitt, EM Mentoring

The Meetings Show recently announced the winners of its Tomorrow’s Talent competition, an initiative which aims to champion talented newcomers to the industry and provide a platform for nurturing, mentoring and supporting the industry leaders of the future.

With more than five years’ experience as an event manager behind conferences, workshops, dinners and receptions, Katie Pollitt is looking for the next opportunity on one hand while running her own mentoring business on the other. EM Mentoring pairs event management students/recent graduates with practiced players as well as hosting its own events to help mentees learn on the front line and mix with other event professionals.

What does it mean to be a Tomorrow’s Talent 2021 winner?

To be recognised for the work I have put into EM alongside my role as a senior international event manager means so much! There are some wonderful young people in this industry, all doing amazing things, so it is such a huge honour to be included among this Top 10.

What has been the biggest challenge you’ve faced this past year, with regards to your career?

There have been a lot of changes to processes and structures with regards to adapting to a virtual world of events. Although I strived to use it as an opportunity to learn, grow and develop my professional skills, there has been a lot of uncertainty surrounding the events industry which has increased the pressure on us all.

Working as an international event manager and not being allowed to travel took a huge part of my job away so there has been a lot to adjust to.

What do you love most about the sector?

The people! The last year has been a struggle for so many of us, but it also led to me meeting some wonderful people that I wouldn’t have connected with otherwise. I have such a strong support network of event professionals since starting EM Mentoring.
