5 ways to close a cover letter

CV - Should you include hobbies and interests?

Sometimes your cover letter is the only thing that gets read by potential employers, so itโ€™s important to get it right. You want to describe your skills and how they can help the company without gloating. You also need to close it with a line that calls the recruiter to action. Glassdoor put together these five handy tips for closing a cover letter to land an interview.

1 โ€œIโ€™m very excited to learn more about this opportunity and share how I will be a great fit for your organisation.โ€ This makes the reader aware of your passion for finding out more about the role and shows youโ€™re actively thinking about how you fit into the company culture.

2 โ€œI believe this is a position where my passion for this industry will grow because of the opportunities you provide for your employees.โ€ Tell the employer what is most appealing about the company and how that fits with your ambitions. It shows youโ€™ve thought about your application before making it.

3 โ€œIf Iโ€™m offered this position I will be ready to hit the ground running and help the company exceed its own expectations for success.โ€ This statement shows youโ€™re ready to take action and will make the employer wonder how you plan to do so.

4 โ€œI would appreciate the opportunity to meet with you to discuss how my qualifications will be beneficial to your organisationโ€™s success.โ€ Make sure your cover letter illustrates how you can help the company, not how the role supports your own goals.

5 โ€œI will call you next Tuesday to follow up on my application and arrange for an interview.โ€ Donโ€™t end your cover letter by leaving it to the employer to get in touch. Entice them to take action by saying youโ€™ll follow up yourself, but donโ€™t make it an empty promise โ€“ call them if they donโ€™t call you.
