Almost six in ten women are ditching make-up and embracing the natural look

Almost six in ten women are ditching make-up and embracing the natural look – as their skin becomes a bigger priority.

A study of 2,000 women found that fewer social events and less face-to-face contact has seen 59 per cent going bare-faced more than ever before. And more than one in four admitted to buying less make-up and more skincare products since the first lockdown.

Almost one in five have even become overwhelmed by the amount of cosmetics they have lying around their homes, with 42 per cent wanting to cut down on the number of products they use. The stats emerged in a study by Foreo, to launch UFO 2, which delivers an at-home facial treatment in two minutes or less with their Farm-to-Face range.

A spokesman, said: “For many, 2020 has caused a dramatic shift in women’s feelings about make-up and their appearance. Previously, women would have large make-up collections which would be used on a daily basis to boost their appearance. But now, there is a desire to look after the skin and make sure that’s in the best condition it can be, which in return leaves many feeling more confident about how they look, without the need for make-up heavy routines.”

The study also found that 59 per cent of women are also looking for beauty routines to not only benefit their skin, but provide a boost to mental health as well. As a result, just under a third are starting to seek more immersive experiences when using skincare to help relax and unwind. And six in ten will choose skincare products because of how they make them feel.

Although one in three women believe their daily skincare routines are more complicated now than they were a decade ago. Almost half (47 per cent) are reluctant to purchase and choose a mask to use at-home because they don’t know which ones are best suited to their skin type.

The study, carried out via OnePoll, also found that 64 per cent would like to be more ‘confident’ in their own ability to look after their skin.

Foreo’s spokesperson, added: “Having healthy skin leads to a happier mental state – it’s one less thing to worry about. It’s interesting to see how many people are looking to combine beauty treatments with things that can help them with their mental wellbeing as well. This is where a proper facial or treatment in expert hands can really help, but of course at the moment that’s not always possible. We designed the UFO 2 to try and help people recreate that spa feeling in their own homes.”
