Chelsea FC deploys 90-minute conferences tactic

A snappy new 90-minute conference package is to be trialled by Events at Club Chelsea to cater for the shorter attention spans of modern delegates.

The rapid adoption of communication technology and exposure to increasing volumes of information has been impacting the human concentration span for several years now[1].

And with studies showing that working in bursts of around 90 minutes improves productivity[2], Events at Club Chelsea has drawn on its football heritage to launch the new short format conferences.

The 90-minute conference is specifically designed to cater for time poor modern executives who now receive an average of 121 emails per day[3].

Conference organisers will receive a special match day package, including a referee’s whistle to kick off proceedings and keep speakers to time, red and yellow cards to keep delegates in order and linesman’s flags to signal any offside behaviour.

The conferences will include a half-time break with refreshments including the traditional oranges. There will also be opportunities to hear a motivational speech from a Chelsea Legend before the second half gets underway.

Extra time will be available for events that run over with the possibility of a penalty shoot-out to settle any outstanding issues.

Events at Club Chelsea will be piloting the packages over the next six months in its Millennium Suites, with costs starting from £40.00 + VAT per delegate.

Simon Hunter, Head of Venue and Development at Chelsea Football Club, said: “Working hard for 90 minutes is a familiar concept here at Chelsea Football Club. So when we found out this was also the optimum period of work to improve productivity the opportunity to trial a new 90 minute conference package felt like an open goal.

“We know that event organisers are always looking for exciting news ways to engage delegates and we think that this will capture the imagination. Our flexible venue means we can accommodate a wide range of these short form conferences to suit different requirements and budgets. We see these new 90minutes conferences as another option, alongside longer format events, which will continue to be popular.”

Chelsea Football Club is set to host over 600 non match day events this year. These include GIANT Health Event 2019, Europe’s largest innovation in health tech conference, PHEX 2019, the UK’s leading exhibition for plumbing and heating professionals, and Sports Video Group’s FutureSPORT conference.
