Who’s behind the Event Photography Awards?

EPA Founder & CEO of Off To Work, Philip Atkins, commented: “I remain passionate and proud to support a competition that celebrates the brilliant photographers whose work, more than ever, does so much to amplify, justify and thereby sustain the events industry. It’s always so inspiring to see the ingenuity, tenacity, technical wizardry and pure professionalism of our sector captured with such amazing creative clarity.”

Competition & Event Director, Graham Hill commented: “This is the earliest we’ve ever opened entries, and I am so excited to see another array of amazing images and magic moments captured at events. We’re hoping more agencies, caterers, organisers and venues will enter directly this time and help make the 10th anniversary competition the biggest and best yet.”

More about the awards

The Event Photography Awards were founded in 2014 by Philip Atkins, Managing Director of premier event staffing agency Off to Work, to celebrate the (often unsung) photographers who contribute so much to the validity, sustenance and marketability of the events industry.

The competition is a not-for-profit exercise open to both professionals and amateurs.

The competition has sixteen categories (listed below), plus awards for Best Amateur, Best Portfolio, the Peoples’ Choice Award, judged by attendees during the awards event, and Overall Winners.

The 16 categories of the Event Photography Awards are:

  • A Listers
  • Behind the Scenes
  • Brand Activations & Experiential Events
  • Catering, Food & Drink
  • Christmas Parties & Seasonal Events
  • Corporate Events & Conferences
  • Cultural Events
  • Music Events – Concerts
  • Music Events – Performers
  • Private Events
  • Royal Occasions
  • Sporting Events
  • Trade Shows & Exhibitions
  • Venues
  • Weddings

To glean an appropriately wide range of inherently subjective views, the competition is judged by a panel of over 50 industry leaders and senior members of the trade media.

The competition attracted over 1700 images from nearly 200 photographers in 2023, more than double the numbers of the hastily organised 2022 contest (after a pandemic enforced hiatus in 2021) and the highest entry level in the history of the competition.

The Awards Event will return to 66 Portland Place in June

Having proved the perfect venue this year, the EPA 2024 Awards Event will be returning to the stunning 66 Portland Place, the home of RIBA, on Wednesday 5th June 2024.
