How to beat Blue Monday

Blue Monday, the third Monday of January is often touted as the most depressing day of the year, but it doesn’t have to be! The PA Life team have detailed their top tips for tackling the January blues today, with the hope that you’ll leave the office with a spring in your step.

Book a holiday
Many places use Blue Monday as an opportunity to reduce prices for holidays abroad, so with some shopping around you may find yourself with an unbeatable deal to lift your spirits. Planning ahead to the future will help you feel less caught up in the general January bleakness, and the thought of a sunnier summer could end up boosting your motivation.

A neat freak's desk

Tidy your desk
Your 2018 workplace could be very different to previous years, and it can help put your mind in order by giving your desk a re-order. Don’t have a desk, or already neat and tidy? Take a look at your computer’s desktop or your mobile phone’s layout. How many of the files on display do you need? Lighten the load in time for the year ahead.

Make plans
Plan for the weekend or do something social after work. Planning ahead doesn’t just help motivate in the long-term, knowing that good things are coming this week will help push you through the hardest Monday of the year and keep you buzzing through your working week. You could even use it as an opportunity to meet with new people.

Walking

Go for a walk
Walk somewhere new at lunchtime or this evening. Even if you’ve been working at the same company for years, I bet there’s a road nearby you haven’t walked down. It may just be another residential area or industrial estate, but you may be surprised by your discoveries. Give yourself a sense of adventure and get exploring.
