How to stay visible when you work from home

Businesses can save thousands by video conferencing

Thanks to the wonders of technology, being physically present at the office isnโ€™t always necessary. If youโ€™ve worked out a flexible arrangement whereby you work from home now and then, hereโ€™s a bit of advice for staying visible to your fellow employees.

1 Check in regularly
When you work from home, itโ€™s easy for people to forget youโ€™re actually โ€œthereโ€. Send the team regular updates throughout the day to keep them in the loop on what youโ€™re doing and check in every now and then to find out if thereโ€™s anything you can do to help. Make a note of this communication, as you can use it to make a case for working from home more often.

2 Get to know the team
Even if you only support one or a few executives, itโ€™s important to spend your time in the office getting to know your colleagues. That way, even when you work from home, you can turn to them for help or information for a project. Plus, theyโ€™ll be more responsive to your updates and will be the ones to feed back intel on whatโ€™s happening on their end.

3 Meet up
If youโ€™re purely a remote employee but live close enough to the office, make a point of showing up for lunch on a regular basis. Schedule monthly meetings with your boss to give you an excuse to come in and see everyone so they can put a face to a name.

4 Stay productive
In the end, the only thing that really matters when you work from home is productivity. So donโ€™t take advantage of the privilege of remoting in โ€“ complete your tasks, seek opportunities to lend a helping hand and continue to prove yourself as a valuable member of the team.
