Princess Diana fashion show celebrates her life 20 years later

Kensington Palace has launched its new fashion exhibition exploring the style of Diana, Princess of Wales. โ€˜Diana: Her Fashion Storyโ€™ hopes to โ€˜trace the evolutionโ€™ of the style of Diana through her life. To reflect her style and generation, guests were welcomed into the palaceโ€™s New Garden Room, which was redecorated to feature bright colours and disco balls to give off an 80s theme.

The charity behind the exhibition, Historic Royal Palaces, want to help the public explore the stories of how royal families have shaped society. As the evening allowed for visitors to examine the Princessโ€™ most iconic outfits, live music was performed alongside a selection of canapรฉs at a mirrored bar. A tour of the Kingโ€™s State Apartments also gave people the opportunity to investigate the palaceโ€™s history.

The first wife of heir to the throne HRH Prince Charles and mother to their two children, William and Harry, Lady Diana was considered โ€˜the Peopleโ€™s Princessโ€™, and was known for her extensive charity work, most notably with Londonโ€™s Great Ormond Street and her campaigning to raise awareness of HIV/AIDS. She was involved in a fatal car crash in 1997, and the exhibition hopes to explore her legacy 20 years on.

โ€œIt was fantastic to be able to welcome guests to โ€˜Diana: Her Fashion Story,โ€™โ€ said Alex Donnelly-Palmer, events and operations manager at Kensington Palace, who believed the show โ€œcelebrates the life of the late Diana, Princess of Wales.โ€

Running for two years at the palace, the charity hopes that it will encourage more people to learn of the historical past of the Royals. For more information, you can visit www.hrp.org.uk.
