Quirky perks offered at UK companies

Employees appreciate benefits more than employers think

Research conducted by job site Glassdoor last year revealed that 34% of employees report benefits and perks among their top considerations when looking for a new job. With that in mind, the company has now released a list of 20 companies and the awesomely quirky perks they offer staff.

Topping out the list is Cloud collaboration company Huddle, which gives new employees a £5,000 joining bonus they call a ‘Huddle Cuddle’, as well as a gift worth £500 for every year of service – adorable and thoughtful. Meanwhile, Airbnb offers $2,000 (£1,413) for staff to travel and see the world.

If more personal benefits are to your liking, try The Body Shop, which pays for five volunteering days a year, or Peninsula Business Services, where employees are treated to a Christmas party for their kids.

Time off is a great perk that most people try to negotiate when looking for a new job, so places such as Rackspace and Swinton Insurance give staff an extra day off for their birthday and Christmas shopping. But employees at ARM Holdings are offered a four-week sabbatical for every four years of service. Can you say dream job?

Other amazing benefits include free food at Google and Jive Software, free childcare at CA Technologies, an on-site GP and dentist at Allen & Overy and health perks such as a swimming pool at Pentland Brands and bicycle repairs at Jagex. And don’t forget the all-expenses paid staff holiday offered at TransferWise and the Wine Club at AutoTrader UK. Sign us up!
